Welcome Message
Welcome to Sixth Form
We are delighted that you are interested in our Sixth Form. Welcome to our information pages. The Sixth Form at Richard Hale School is a highly successful co-educational community of over 300 students that will allow you to build on your previous education in preparation for the next step in your life, whether this is university, an apprenticeship or employment. We are proud that 90% of our students who apply to university achieve their aim to study at their first choice of institution. More and more students are choosing alternative post-18 routes and you can read more about their fantastic achievements under the Destinations tab. Every year around 80% of our Year 11 students remain at Richard Hale for their post-16 studies. We welcome applications from students who have completed their GCSEs at a wide range of schools, mainly across Hertfordshire and north London. Our Sixth Form has a vibrant and friendly atmosphere, buzzing with energy – we share and support your aspirations. Students are encouraged to participate in opportunities to develop as individuals, academically and socially. Our academic framework offers a degree of freedom of choice, alongside increased responsibility to further develop as an independent learner. A Richard Hale Sixth-Former has access to:
- A wide choice of post-16 subjects, including A Levels and BTEC qualifications, catering for a range of ability and interests
- A breadth of Enrichment opportunities, extending skills beyond your chosen subjects: the EPQ; Core Maths; Language for Business and the Sports Leader qualification.

- A school that recognises your needs and provides an environment where your voice is heard and valued.
We sincerely hope that you will join us to undertake your post-16 studies. We are proud of all that our Sixth Form students achieve and how they conduct themselves both at school and in the wider community. Our school values apply in the sixth form, just as they do in the lower school. We expect all sixth form students to:
Respect Others
Aim high
Show Commitment
We challenge all of our students to move out of their comfort zone so that, on completion of their post-16 studies, they will have developed a wide ranging skill-set that is vital for success in the modern world. We welcome students who are committed to achieving their personal best, those whose approach and motivation allows them to use their time well. Richard Hale is immensely proud of the traditions and values that are an integral part of the whole school. An example of this is that you will join the same House as any members of your family who were previously at the school. We look forward to seeing you join us to complete your post-16 studies and are confident that you will fulfil your potential whilst under our care.

Apprenticeship
Ross has secured an apprenticeship with M&G, Savings &Investments, London. It is a Level 4 Business Analyst qualification, with the company BPP undertaking the actual apprenticeship side of it. He will undertake an18 month course in which he can be enrolled into M&G as a permanent employee if all goes well regarding his studies and work. His time is split 80% work/20% study, so one day a week is strictly study with no work. Ross undertakes a hybrid working system, so it’s a very flexible system, regarding working from home and in the office. Ross underwent a 6 stage application process to secure his position!

Apprenticeship
Eva is working for Cancer Research UK on an 18 months Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration, hoping to convert it to a Level 4 or above in Events Management once she has completed the Level 3. Eva filled in lots of application forms, then had to answer audio-based questions followed by a 45 minute in-person interview in order to secure the role.

Apprenticeship
“I have several experiences with applying for degree apprenticeships. They are all different which is probably one of the difficult things about applying as it means you often find yourself repeating the same thing (I know for certain I had more than enough competency-based interviews), or having to do something you are completely unfamiliar with. For Roche, I filled in an online application which after being reviewed meant I was invited for a video interview. This is where I watch some videos with questions and have to record my answer. After that, I was invited to an assessment centre. This was the first time I had done something face to face with everything else being online so far. The assessment centre consisted of a Logical Test, then giving a presentation I had prepared earlier, doing some short interviews and finally a group task.”
Enrichment Activities
Show all activitiesWe run a very successful Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, with many students achieving their Gold Award.
We have a long-established student leadership structure in the Sixth Form. Each year, we appoint a Head Boy and Head Girl, along with a Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl. They are supported by a team of House Captains, School Captains, and Subject Ambassadors. Each of the six Houses has a House Captain and Vice-Captain, who work alongside the (staff) Head of House to plan and organise student participation in the many House events held throughout the year.
there are many opportunities for you to become involved in activities that may be less obvious, but equally important. These include being a mentor to Year 7 students, peer mentoring within your academic subjects, reading with younger students, helping out in lessons with the lower school, developing communication skills by working at local junior schools in their after-school clubs and sitting on school committees.
School teams are run in many sports and have included rugby, football, basketball, netball, cross-country, golf and athletics over the years.
Music and Drama are very popular choices for many students and various school bands and ensembles are well supported by the Sixth Form
