Welcome to Leek High School

Welcome to Sixth Form

The school operates the Leek Sixth Form jointly with Westwood College. The Sixth Form has two campuses, the Leek High campus and the Westwood campus. Both offer plenty of space and excellent facilities. Alongside superb sporting facilities, the Leek High campus boasts extensive grounds, a dedicated Sixth Form Study Centre with computer facilities and a Sixth Form Common Room.

The Sixth Form is large enough to offer a full range of courses, yet still small enough to provide the care, personalised advice and tutorial support you need to be sure of success. We take pride in recognising and maximising the huge potential in our young people, helping them to become everything they can be. Our recipe for success is simple: the highest expectations of each member of the Sixth Form and the highest quality teaching, alongside outstanding personalised care, guidance and tutorial support all within in a beautiful environment where students thrive.

Our Sixth Form offers a successful route to Higher Education, the future pathway followed by the majority of our students. With our support and guidance, students identify individual future study programmes that are both appealing and appropriate for their long term aspirations. In Sciences, Arts and Humanities, our students progress to a vast array of Higher Education courses at a wide range of universities, which have recently included: Natural Sciences at Cambridge; Photography at Falmouth; Law at Aberdeen; Chemical Engineering at Nottingham; Classical Literature and English at Leeds; Medicine at Birmingham; Sports Coaching and Education at Gloucester; Drama and Creative Writing at Royal Holloway; History at Kings College; Music at Goldsmiths; Nursing at Liverpool; Economics and Mathematics at Sheffield; Sociology at Sussex; and Multimedia Journalism at Bournemouth; Ethics and Politics at Princeton.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
We strongly believe in the value and importance of extra-curricular activities in supporting the development of our students. Throughout the year there are many opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

Sport

An extensive range of extra-curricular sports is offered including football, basketball, multi gym, netball, trampolining, badminton, rugby, rounders and tennis. During the autumn and spring terms there are hockey, football, netball, basketball, table- tennis and volleyball inter-house tournaments. Alongside these run quizzes, cooking, art, performing arts, pool and darts competitions. In the summer term there are athletics, rounders, tennis and cricket competitions, culminating with Sports Day. All these events involve as many students as possible of all abilities and talents. Sixth formers are involved in the leadership of many of these activities giving them real responsibility as they develop during their time in the sixth form.

Music

The music department offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. Instrumental tuition on strings, brass, woodwind, guitar and percussion is presently available within school.

Trips

A wide variety of visits takes place; many are educational, while others are of a social nature. Students are also offered a wide range of opportunities for travel overseas. In recent years our students have visited Barcelona, Berlin, New York and Paris.
