FAQs
A: A-levels are graded from A* to E, with A* being the highest. BTECs use a different system (Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction*), which equates to certain A-level grades.
A: Some students may qualify for bursaries, especially if they need help covering costs like travel, meals, or study materials. Check with your sixth form about available support options.
A: Universities recommend 3 A levels alongside a wide extra and super curricular programme, which includes; research projects, work experience, volunteering, wider reading, other qualifications e.g. EPQ, Sports Leadership, English Speaking Board. However, the KAB6 team may grant a programme of 4 A levels in exceptional circumstances.
A: You should consider whether there are any subject combinations that would support your next steps. E.g. Medics must study Biology and Chemistry A: If you are undecided about your next steps consider a broader range of subjects to give you more opportunities
A: Current 140 (Y12 & Y13) As the Academy grows the number in KAB6 will grow. 2025 projection is 200 students on roll.
A: 5 GCSEs at Level 5 and above including Maths and English. Each subject has their own entry requirement. These are stated in the application form. Also speak to teachers.
We offer 30 subjects:
A: 80% A*-C, Average Grade B+. Both of these predictions are above the national average.
A-levels are academic, exam-based qualifications focused on in-depth knowledge in specific subjects, while BTECs are vocational and assessed through coursework and practical projects, ideal for hands-on learners. Some sixth forms offer both, so you can choose what suits you best.
A: Universities, including Cambridge do not encourage studying Law at A level. They would prefer you study; History, Sociology, English Literature, Psychology
A: We would discourage Business and Economics. Geography and Environmental Science
A: Yes, depending on option block and timetable clashes. There can be some movement in the early days of Sixth Form. Most courses are finalised within the first two weeks so students do not fall behind.
A: 10 lessons per subject over two weeks
A: This Varies by Subject. Some subjects may have larger classes due to popularity, while others are smaller.
A: Every Wednesday afternoon is dedicated to Enrichment Activities. You will be encouraged to take up Enrichment during other periods of your week.
A: At KAB6 we have a professional dress code.
A: Yes, this is a unique privilege as a Sixth Former at KAB6
A: KAB6 is designed to help students develop independence, critical thinking, and in-depth subject knowledge. We offer UCAS support, personal statement guidance, and interview prep to assist with university applications.
A: Sixth form is typically more challenging than secondary school, with greater independence in managing coursework and studying. Expect several hours of homework or independent study per week for each subject.
A: The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is an independent research project equivalent to half an A-level. It can enhance university applications, particularly if it aligns with your degree interests, but it requires good time management.
A: Apprenticeships combine work with study and can lead directly to careers. They’re an option after sixth form and are available at various levels, often offering an alternative to university.

We have a dedicated careers advisor. Pastoral Care: Counselling services, mental health support, and personal development programs. We have a KAB6 Designated Safeguard Lead. Special Educational Needs (SEN): Tailored support for students with specific learning requirements. We work closely with the SEND team with students that need SEN provision.
A: Yes, we offer Work Experience in the Summer Term of Year 12
