Welcome to The Friary School

Our Sixth Form is such an important and exciting part of our school and we would love you to add to it. It is very much the pinnacle of our offer and with so many of our own students staying on, as well as other high-fliers joining from elsewhere, there is always a buzz and an excitement as destinations become clearer and life opportunities open up to the full.We give 100% to support every student to fulfil their potential. We are thrilled to see every student who heads off to a top university course. To see every student who celebrates getting on a high-level apprenticeship with accelerated training and experience. To see every student who ploughs straight into a newfound passion in the world of work; and to see every student who jets off on an exhilarating gap year after being inspired by the ideas we push in school. Our Sixth Form is very much about getting you the key to open the doors to your aspirations and ambitions. We will always be with you every step along the way. We will always be here to provide the top-level teaching, the after-school and Saturday boosters, and the one-to-one tutoring to get your over your line. We will always be here to provide the guidance for universities and apprenticeships so you and your family understand the options and the benchmarks to make well-informed choices. We will always be here to help you explore creative and imaginative routes - whether that be tracking African big cats, volunteering in Cambodia, playing your part in the National Citizenship programme, tutoring a younger student, or gaining a fun and valuable work placement to hone your employability skills. Our Sixth Form is not just about your grades - they are just one part of you - but rather we see our job as being there to give you, and every part of you, every chance. Our Sixth Form sets us apart in that we maintain a smaller cohort so that we can focus on you as an individual; we get to know you, know your strengths, and know your weaknesses so that you never just sit as a name on a big list. Our Sixth Form has a dedicated Sixth Form study area to act as your base and a strong Sixth Form Team where pastoral support, careers support, and learning support are all there for you. Our Sixth Form also looks to add the fairy dust that makes the two years ones where you can grow, with field trips, volunteering opportunities, wider learning courses and much more besides. Our Sixth Form is one that is right by your side from day one so we can make sure you start succeeding from the off. We are not a Sixth Form that prioritises ‘bums on seats’, getting as many through the door as possible. Instead, we focus on helping you to pick the right courses and take the right steps that are the very best ones for you.Our Sixth Form is both nationally respected and high performing, so everything is here for you to thrive and shine. You can be confident that your time with us will be all you want it to be. Even so, there are just ten months until you get your GCSE results so your focus must be on delivering on those. There is no point in making grand plans for the future if you forget to take the necessary steps now. Now is the time to make these big Sixth Form decisions; but never forget, that the little steps of today and tomorrow, lesson-by-lesson, are the only way to get yourself walking through those Sixth Form doors for real.Matt AllmanHeadteacher, The Friary School
