Welcome to Mayfield School

I joined Mayfield School as Executive Headteacher in January 2023. I am proud to work in Birmingham, a diverse, cohesive and welcoming place. I work alongside a committed and skilled team of adults with a broad range of knowledge, skills and experience who offer dedication, commitment and support to facilitate positive outcomes for all pupils.

I divide my time between the two school sites, Heathfield Road and Wheeler Street, and am ably supported by a team of leaders who work in fixed base locations so that they are visible and contactable every school day.The whole staff team, irrespective of job role, are dedicated to working in partnership with parents, carers and families. We support young people with special educational needs and disabilities to engage positively in learning, make choices, express their wishes and feelings and develop their personal strengths and interests.

Mayfield is a community and at Mayfield every child matters. With your support, we will learn as much as we can about each child or young person and actively promote a feeling of belonging and a sense of value for everyone.

Mayfield is proud to be an improving school where leadership and management and personal development are significant strengths. We strive every day to improve the quality of education we offer and are proud of the progress we have made. Our curriculum is designed to provide person-centred, ambitious and exciting learning opportunities for all pupils.

Mayfield is a Unicef Rights Respecting School and we currently hold the silver award. We help children to learn about their rights and advocate for themselves and others. Adults at Mayfield are duty bearers, meaning that they promote, uphold and advocate for the Universal Rights of the Child.

Although all the Rights are of equal importance, every child has the right to an education (article 28) and, at Mayfield, we aim to reduce barriers to attending school and make highly personalised adjustments for all pupils so that they can access their right to a full-time education. This applies to all children, irrespective of medical needs, special educational needs or disability. A key part of our vision is to enable all pupils to engage, communicate, contribute, develop and live their lives well – we know we can succeed at this when pupils attend school well.

Some young people with SEND may experience challenges at some point during their school career and we encourage adults to work together in a solution focused and restorative way to support pupils and uphold their rights. We are dedicated to making sure that “better never ends” and welcome honest feedback and open and regular communication with parents, carers and other professionals.

We want to connect as many parents, carers and family members as possible to Class Dojo, our online platform, so that we can show you pictures of your child’s school experience, explain what they are learning, share information with you and send you regular updates. It is really important for us to be able to share this information with you. If you need help with this, please speak to your child’s class team. You can log into Class Dojo here: Class Dojo

Mayfield is a “can-do” school so if there is anything at all we can do to help or support you or your child during their time at Mayfield, please get in touch.

Kind regards,
Vicky Miller

The Albion football club provide differentiated and accessible PD sessions for all learners on a term rotation as an enrichment opportunity. Open theatre provides all learners on a term rotation the opportunity to be involved with non-verbal physical drama. … At Mayfield School, we run a range of extra-curricular activities during lunch times. We have clubs such as football, basketball, table tennis and dance. During the morning and throughout the day … learners can enjoy sensory circuits and use one of the many dedicated breakout movement spaces available. Afterschool sports clubs have been trialled and these will be developed further in the Summer Term!”
