Welcome to Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda

Welcome to the Sixth FormAs you know, now is a very important time. The GCSE exams are just around the corner and you and your family need to make difficult decisions in the coming months about the future.Whatever the exam results this summer, we hope that Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Cwm Rhondda will be an important part of your discussions regarding the future. As a school, we will offer a wide and interesting variety of courses in September together with social and cultural opportunities for the students. Our intention is to provide something for all pupils, whatever their ability, so that they can leave school with valuable and relevant qualifications for the twenty-first century. The school offers students unique opportunities, for example:A solid school ethos based on respect, understanding and tolerance A wide range of academic, personal and social opportunities to ensure the complete development of the individual, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Every pupil is given the opportunity across education of the whole ability range to develop the next steps and lay foundations for lifelong education.Education through the medium of the Welsh language and in a Welsh atmosphere. No other organization can offer this in the area. This may be the last contact the students have with a Welsh-medium institution. Sixth form education at Cymer is likely to reinforce the linguistic development our pupils made in primary, lower and middle school. Sixth form Welsh education should ensure that the students are able to be flexible and bilingual citizens in our communities. We also remember that the implementation of the Language Act places increasing importance on the language in the world of commerce and business. There is a definite advantage in the ability to communicate in Welsh in the job market in Wales. Students returning to our sixth form will return to an atmosphere they are familiar with. We hope to offer the same place, but a different environment. The fact that the students are familiar with the staff and the school should ensure that they settle in quickly. In addition to this, the school has a pastoral system which will help them through their sixth form education.Educational provision of the highest quality. Our aim as a school is to build on these solid foundations, to extend and increase the students' experiences and to further raise standards. We have already received a favorable response from a number of students and their parents who are enthusiastic to keep in touch with the school. It is a privilege to be a Welsh language comprehensive school for the Rhondda and we will try to continue to produce bilingual and successful students for the community we serve.
