Course summary

These BTEC qualifications in Business are designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in the business sector. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment. The qualifications provide career development opportunities and progression opportunities to higher education, degree and professional development programmes within the same or related areas of study, within universities and other institutions. At Colton Hills the assessment approach of the BTEC qualifications in Business allows learners to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course as they provide evidence towards the assessment and grading criteria. There have been significant changes to the assessment required by the examination board. Unit 3 “Personal and Business Finance” will be an external exam. Unit 2 and Unit 6 will be a controlled assessment. Evidence for assessment may be generated through a range of diverse activities including assignment and project work, case studies, workplace assessment, role play and oral presentation. Delivery strategies will reflect the nature of work within the business sector by encouraging learners to research and carry out assessment in the workplace or in simulated working conditions wherever possible. Students at Colton Hills are entered for various local projects where the students produce, market and sell a creative product. Over several years we have been very successful, winning many trophies.
