Course summary
The Drama & Theatre A-Level course combines the exciting activities of exploring play texts, creating theatre, the performing of both scripted plays and devised work, the analysis of live theatre and the critical evaluation of all of these elements. Students will also study key theatre practitioners and theatre companies, and the influence of social, cultural and historical contexts upon performance texts. The course offers a dynamic and creative approach to the subject, both academic and practical. As a successful student you will be passionate about performing and drama and be excited to expand your experience of theatre. You will be able to evaluate your own, and others’, performances and work well within a team. You need to be creative and be prepared to work out of your comfort zone, particularly when exploring brand new styles of drama and theatre. You will need to manage your time effectively as many hours of extra-curricular rehearsals are required, and this must be taken into account when opting for this course. Strong ability to write essays is also crucial. Theatre trips are necessary to complete the course and enhance students’ understanding and range of theatre experience.
