Course summary
In year 12, students begin to prepare for the Edexcel A-level Mathematics which incorporates Pure Maths, Statistics and Mechanics. The year 12 curriculum builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding from higher tier GCSE. Through their study, students will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills of mathematical argument, language and proof, mathematical problem solving and mathematical modelling. These will be applied, along with associated mathematical thinking and understanding, across the following topic areas: proof; algebra and functions; coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane; sequences and series; trigonometry; exponentials and logarithms; differentiation; integration; numerical methods; vectors; statistical distributions; statistical hypothesis testing; quantities and units in mechanics; kinematics; forces and Newton’s laws.
