Welcome to Thirsk School & Sixth Form College

We offer a truly inclusive and diverse range of courses providing individual pathways that inspire and challenge our students as they progress to the next stage of their careers. Benefitting from being attached to the school but with its own distinctive and independent flavour, our Sixth Form College fully deserves its excellent reputation. The focused and hardworking atmosphere underpins our track record of successful UCAS applications (including the prestigious Russell Group universities) and students are undertaking a wealth of apprenticeship and employment opportunities. This success is achieved through the strong links between our students, subject staff and specialist form tutors: the tutor group, in particular, is a powerful and positive part of our guidance programme and career support. It is through our tutor groups that we live up to our Sixth Form principle of ‘work hard, play hard’. Events such as the Freshers and Leavers Balls, Gold Duke of Edinburgh, Autumn Fair, School Service Mentors and Prefects and the annual Senior Citizens’ Party allow our students to demonstrate all important leadership and personal qualities in a wide range of extra-curricular settings. Organised and run by the Sixth Form Council, our student voice ensures both learning and enrichment have a distinctly Sixth Form feel. Please take time to fully explore what we do through our section of the website and don’t hesitate to contact me for further information: I will be happy to answer questions you may have.Gordon PentlandHead of Sixth Form College

Students can also do a range of extra activities within this time including school service, work experience, mentoring, sport and prefect duties. This freedom within College is reflected in students having free time, being able to leave at lunch, being able to drive and having a career focus as they prepare to live away from home. The independent study we manage supports this transition at a very exciting time for our young people.
