Course summary

Do you really, really love maths? Do you really, really enjoy a challenge? Do you really, really enjoy investigating? Then Further Maths A level is for you. This course is studied alongside Mathematics A level in both Years 12 and 13. More topics are studied in more depth from the selection available in Pure, Statistics, or Mechanics. You MUST do A level mathematics as well as further maths. You will learn more mathematics in more depth! Topics bring abstract ideas in mathematics into the classroom and students will learn about the wider applications possible as they acquire greater knowledge. Examinations will be taken consisting of pure and applied topics. There are four 90 mins exams Further maths A level provides an excellent foundation for those wishing to study mathematics at university. Homework is set after every lesson to consolidate the work covered in school; approximately one hour of homework is set after every lesson. It is imperative that students keep up to date with all homework set. Lots of exercises set to work at in an independent manner. We expect you to look at the topics being studied and examine the applications of the work in your own time. Opportunities to enter The United Kingdom Individual and Team Maths Challenge Opportunities to attend lectures and conferences as they arise, eg The Open University Christmas maths lecture in Milton Keynes.
