Why study this course? There are many career pathways and as such a general interest in any of the following is desirable: • Aerospace • Agriculture • Automotive • Biomedical • Chemical • Civil engineering • Computing • Drafting and Design • Engineering Key competencies include problem-solving and design solutions. What will the course cover? The course is a 10-unit (double award) consisting of six mandatory units - two external and four internal. External units carry an externally set exam that learners must complete and achieve a passing grade or above. Learners must complete all mandatory internal units in Group B using internally assessed assignments. Unit 1 – Engineering Principles and Maths – fluids, dynamics, gear ratios Unit 2 – Delivery of engineering processes safely as a team - manufacture and MOT tool. Unit 3 – Engineering Product Design and Manufacture – externally examined Unit 4 – Applied commercial and quality principles in engineering/MV – business aspects Unit 5 – A specialist engineering project – vehicle security device – modeling and prototyping. Unit 9 – Work experience in engineering – 4/5 day placement at an engineering establishment. Unit 10 – CAD/CAM working drawing development Unit 39 – Modern manufacturing systems – assembly line technology/ JIT/Kaizen/Poka Yoke Unit 41 – Manufacturing secondary machining processes – using lathes/ pillar drills/milling machine Unit 44 – Fabrication manufacturing processes – mechanics toolbox manufacture
