Component 1 - Research methods Students will examine the four main techniques for collecting/analysing data • Self-report • Experimentation • Observation • Correlation Component 2 - Psychological themes through core studies • Students examine key areas of Psychology • There is also the opportunity to investigate a number of the key debates such as Nature/nurture, Freewill/determinism Reductionism/holism Individual/situational explanations Component 3 - Methodological issues and debates Issues in mental health -The historical context of mental health -The medical model Students also examine a selection of the following topics -Child psychology -Criminal psychology Exams: There are three examinations at the end of the two year course – one for each component. Each exam is two hours.
