Course summary

‘No one is born hating another person because of the colour of (their) skin or (their) religion…’ – Nelson Mandela. The power of sociology is to demonstrate just how strong the social forces that organise society in very different ways are. Throughout the course, you will see how societies shape the different opportunities that people have within them. For example, where you were born and when has radically shaped much of what you know and what you can do. After encountering sociology, you may never see the world again with the same eyes. Aims of the course: The A-level course should enable you to: a) acquire knowledge and understanding of contemporary social processes and structures; b) appreciate the significance of theoretical and conceptual issues in sociological debate; c) understand sociological methodology and a range of research methods.
