Course summary
This is a course for students with an interest in the subject, or who are interested in pursuing a career in the sciences, or a science based industry. In particular please note, that if you wish to study Medicine or Veterinary Science in the future, you MUST have studied A Level Chemistry. Year 1 Topics: Foundations of atomic structure, bonding and properties. Introduction to organic molecules. In depth study of inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry. Applications of organic chemistry in the development of medicines. Year 2 Topics: Polymers and Life Chemical Industry Oceans Developing Metals Colour by Design All practical work will be written up and formally assessed. This aspect of the course is awarded either a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’. It is recorded on your A Level certificate but does not contribute to your final grade. However a pass is vital if you wish to study a science related subject at University.
