Assessment

The course comprises of 13 units that students must undertake with a variety of external and internally assessed units. Core units range from Working in Health and Social Care, Anatomy and Physiology to understanding mental health and well-being. The units aim to provide students with a rounded overview of what working in the health and social care sector would look like. Three units are assessed through an external exam that students will sit at either the end of Year 1 or Year 2 as well as a controlled assessment that is sent off to be externally marked. Alongside this are internally assessed units that are teacher led and marked. Students will work consistently throughout the year on these units which will accumulate to their final grade to achieve qualifications ranging from PPP to D*D*D* which is equivalent to 3 A-Levels. Work experience is compulsory; this will be 100 hours based over 3 placements in year 12. These placements will cover both health and social care to help students gain and apply their work based skills, communication, and teamwork and time management as well as develop personal and professional attributes which will enhance their employability.
