Course summary

At its heart lies the notion of computational thinking: a mode of thought that goes well beyond software and hardware, and that provides a framework within which to reason about systems and problems. It is an intensely creative subject that combines invention and excitement, and can look at the natural world through a digital prism. The A Level course consists of 2 question and answer papers worth 40% each of the total A level. The final unit is a non-exam assessment where the learner will choose a computing problem to work through according to the guidance in the specification. They will complete the following; analysis of the problem, design of the solution, developing the solution, Evaluation. This course is aimed at students wanting a specialist computing qualification prior to studying computer science or a similar degree and demands fairly high levels of logic or mathematical ability.
