A Level Product Design
Course summary
The course begins with a mix of design, practical and theory-based tasks, building a strong foundation in key areas such as design thinking, materials & manufacturing processes. Throughout the course, CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacture) are used to support digital design and modelling, reflecting current industry practice. Course Content: A key part of the course is the Independent Design and Make Project, which involves identifying a real-world problem and designing a unique solution for an authentic client. This is a chance to explore creative ideas and apply the full design process from start to finish. The project includes research, sketching, testing, prototyping & refinement, leading to a final product supported by a detailed portfolio. Once the project is complete, the focus shifts to preparation for the written examination. Throughout the course, a wide range of transferable skills are developed, including problem solving, critical thinking, design communication & project management. All of which are highly valued in creative and technical industries.
