Geography is a diverse and dynamic subject. You will develop a wide range of skills such as teamwork, problem solving, decision making, data handling, communication and use of IT. It is an effective bridge between the sciences, mathematics and humanities. The course offers a broad range of topic areas and so this course should appeal to those students who are interested in both Human and Physical Geography. Geography is particularly well suited to those who love finding out about new people, places and landscapes and those who want the opportunity to do fieldwork as well as classwork.
Along with being a keen geographer, you should be attaining a grade 5 or above at GCSE geography to access the content at A - level.
If you choose to study geography, you will be assessed on 3 main components: Component 1: Physical Geography • There will be an exam on 3 modules - Water and Carbon, Hazards and Costal Systems. • Worth 40% of overall A - level Component 2: Human Geography • There will be an exam on 3 modules - Global systems and Global Governance, Changing Places and Contemporary urban environments. • Worth 40% of overall A - level Component 3: Geographical Investigation • Individual investigation including data collected out in the field. The question is designed by you! • It is a 3000 – 4000 word document • Worth 20% of overall A - level
