During the course three topics in Physical and three topics in Human Geography will be examined. Students will also complete a geographical investigation written report (non-examined) that is based on data collected in the field from fieldwork undertaken on at least four occasions, giving students the opportunity to apply their mathematical, analytical and literacy skills through their studies. • Students who are interested in the world around them and how the world is changing and responding to changes. • Students who enjoy carrying out fieldwork, handling data and solving problems.
To be accepted into the Sixth Form, you will need a minimum of five grade 4’s, or higher in GCSE subjects. GCSE Geography at Grade 5 or higher and grade 5 in English and Math.
Lessons will be based on theory and case studies which illustrate key themes and theories. Some lessons towards the end of year 12 will be dedicated to support you in your geographical investigations. You will be taught by experienced teachers. In support of the teaching and learning in class you will be expected to complete homework and additional reading around the topic. Each topic will be assessed by an end of unit key assessment. The final examination consists of 1 paper for Physical Geography and 1 paper for Human Geography assessing knowledge from the whole course, each examination is worth 40% of the overall grade. The Geographical Investigation report is worth 20% of the overall grade which is internally marked (non-examined).
