Course summary

Business is a very popular Sixth Form option and many of our current Year 13 students are applying for places on business-related degree courses at university. This course differs from A-Level Business in a number of ways. Specifically, students are required to complete coursework. However, each unit also tends to have a more vocational and practical focus. For example, in Year 12 you will be required to research and develop a marketing strategy for a small, local business. Each of the three substantial pieces of coursework will require students to be disciplined in their organisation and time management. We believe that this course equips you with the exact skills that employers require. Time-management and organisation have already been mentioned, but you will also make use of your excellent verbal and written communication skills. The business world places a high value on the ability to research, analyse and evaluate information in order to make considered decisions. Students will have the opportunity to gain these vital skills. In addition to these transferable skills, you will also learn business-specific skills such as the completion of important financial documentation. You do not need GCSE Business to take this course. The content is very different and we have found that there is no discrepancy between the attainment of those who did / did not take GCSE. All of our lessons are taught in computer suites. We recognise that Business students need regular access to current materials to make the best use of lesson time. Business works very well with a wide range of A-Levels, including Psychology, Mathematics and languages. It is also highly relevant to a wide range of careers. It’s very difficult to think of a job where a good understanding of business would not be useful!
