English Literature
Assessment
Whilst the first three components are assessed through examinations, the final component - the Independent Prose Study - allows students to select two of their own texts to explore (one pre-2000 and one post-2000). Supported by their expert coursework supervisor, they will design and respond to their own question, in an assignment that echoes the dissertation module of undergraduate study. The most important qualities a student will have is a genuine enjoyment of literature - a love of reading novels and poetry and watching and performing plays - and a wish to think about it, be moved by it and to discuss it. Students are encouraged to visit the theatre often and to seize every opportunity to see or hear a writer talking about his/her craft.
