Course summary

Fine Art is primarily concerned with personal expression, with producing something individual and creative. The aim of the course is designed to encourage students to develop their interest and enjoyment in the study of art and design. Students will develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures and will work from their own strengths and interests. Students will make personal visual responses in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, print and installation. A willingness to take an independent interest in the world of art by researching, visiting galleries and making enquiries is essential. The first year of this course focuses on building skills, exploring a range of processes and using a variety of techniques. The second year provides students with a wide range of creative and stimulating opportunities to explore their interests in ways that are both personally relevant and developmental in nature. This course is particularly suitable for students who wish to study art and design or a related subject at a higher level or who wish to pursue a career in the arts.
