Course summary

This is a Linear course taught over two years. A level English language provides a fresh perspective on the language that surrounds us each and every day. Over the course of the year, we study a variety of topics including: - Linguistic methods and text analysis; - Language and gender; - Language and occupation; - Language diversity and how social contexts influence our language; - Language change (1600-present day); - Language acquisition. All students will learn the metalanguage of linguistics which means by the end of the first year of study they will have the skills and confidence to analyse the many functions of language.
