An understanding of Food Science and Nutrition is relevant to many industries and job roles. Care providers and nutritionists in hospitals use this knowledge, as do sports coaches and fitness instructors. Hotels and restaurants, food manufacturers and government agencies also use this understanding to develop menus, food products and policies that support healthy eating initiatives. This course is a mix of both practical based skills and theoretical aspects of food science, nutrition and food safety. Students will be given the chance to improve and develop their culinary skills.
Our entry requirements are five grades awarded 9–5 at GCSE/L2 pass or above at BTEC/CTEC equivalent including a minimum of GCSE Grades 5 or above in English & Maths. In addition, some subjects require a GCSE Grade 6 or above in specific entry requirements (see pages 12 and 13). For the A level programme a level 2 BTEC/CTEC Merit counts as an equivalent GCSE Grade 5. English 4 Maths 4 GCSE grade 5 or L2 BTEC Food Technology and/or Science at a Merit is desirable
This course consists of 50% formal examination and 50% coursework. The exam is 90 minutes long.
