Course summary

The A Level History course pursued at DCGS manages to surprise, inspire, horrify and stimulate students due to the truly fascinating topics that we explore. If plots, executions, lust and megalomaniacal monarchs draw your attention then the Tudor dynasty will prove highly satisfying. If observing a fledgling nation slowly tearing itself apart until disputes could only be settled on the battlefield sounds appealing, then the American Civil War will certainly deliver. If paranoid dictators, cataclysmic revolutions and the boldest political experiment in human history whets your appetite then Russia, 1855-1991, will not disappoint. The course is both rigorous and demanding and will certainly position students perfectly should they wish to pursue an academic path by applying to university. Students studying History at A Level gain a richer understanding of the past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives. In tandem with this, A Level historians develop their expertise in higher order questioning, analysis of evidence and interpretations and constructing confident, cogent and insightful arguments and judgements.
