Course summary

A Level dance develops a wide range of skills that are ideal to transfer to the workplace or into further education. For example, dance students can communicate effectively both verbally and in written format, tackle challenges from any given starting point, work well with others and build relationships based on trust. Dance A Level is a performance-based subject but is equally weighted with a theoretical aspect which provides an appropriate focus for students to critically engage with dance and understand the interrelationship between the creation, presentation and appreciation of dance. You will study the history of the Rambert Dance Company from 1966 and Modern Dance in Britain from the year 2000 to the present day. You will study two set works: Rooster and Sutra. Practically, you will learn the movement styles of practitioners within these time frames alongside performance, technical and choreographic skills in the contemporary style. You will have an equal mixture of both practical and theory lessons where you will be given the opportunity to explore, experiment and excel in all the areas you will have examinations for at the end of the course. You will have opportunities to perform regularly to build on the skills needed to be successful.
