Do you want a career that makes a difference in people’s lives? Are you interested in working with people from different backgrounds? Do you want to improve your care and communication skills? Have you thought about working in areas such as child care, education, social work, nursing, and medicine? If your answer is yes to any of these then you should consider studying Health and Social Care at A level. Students of Health and Social Care will gain a greater awareness and understanding of current issues such as employment, service provision, rights and responsibilities within the workplace, and health and wellbeing. ▪ You will learn how to effectively care for, and communicate with people with different needs such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. ▪ You will learn about the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development across the human lifespan, and the factors affecting development, and the effects of aging. ▪ You will explore what it is like to work in the health and social care sector, including the roles and responsibilities of workers and organizations. ▪ You will focus on the principles and practicalities that underpin meeting individuals’ care and support needs, which are the foundation of all the care disciplines. ▪ You will study the application of sociological approaches to health and social care, and explore social inequalities, demographic change, and patterns and trends in social groups. ▪ You will explore key theoretical perspectives that have been put forward on psychological and physical development and how they are applied in different health and social care settings. The course provides a broad introduction to the Health and Social Care sector. Many students decide to continue studying specific aspects of Health and Social Care at university or use the skills they have gained in their chosen profession.
