Course summary

Studying French at AS and A’ Level encourages students to explore France and the French speaking world and learn about their history, their geography and their culture and how these relate to contemporary issues in society and politics. We do this through reading, listening and watching a wide variety of authentic texts and media. Students develop their language skills to understand information, consider the views of others, draw conclusions and express their own thoughts clearly in a more sophisticated language. Themes: • Social issues and trends • The changing nature of family • The ‘cyber-society • The place of voluntary work, Positive features of a diverse • Life for the marginalised, How criminals are treated Political and Artistic Culture • A culture proud of its heritage, Contemporary francophone music, Cinema: the 7th art form • Teenagers, the right to vote and political commitment - Demonstrations, strikes – who holds the power? - • Politics and immigration
