Course summary

Core Maths (Level 3 Certificate in Mathematical Studies) Core Maths is a Level 3 qualification equivalent to half an A Level (AS Level). It is designed to give students a practical “maths for life” education and to support the mathematical skills needed in other subjects such as science, geography, psychology, business, and health studies. This course is ideal for anyone who has achieved at least a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and wants to continue developing their maths without taking A Level Mathematics. It is normally studied alongside three A Levels or a vocational course (such as a BTEC or T Level). Through Core Maths, students learn how to apply maths to real-world situations, focusing on areas like personal finance, statistics, estimation, and data analysis. The course helps you make informed decisions, interpret information critically, and build confidence using numbers — skills that are highly valued by universities and employers.
