Assessment
There are two examinations. Students are asked to read closely and analyse texts they have studied and unseen extracts. In year 13 students write one extended essay, comparing two texts. Usually students study one text together in class, for example Ibsen’s A Doll’s House and choose a second text. Both the subject of the essay and the title are negotiated by the student and teacher. This essay is worth 20% of the A level.
