Course summary
Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘A Doll’s House’, a wide range of poetry from Shakespeare to the present day and a range of texts (including a novel, play and poetry) about World War I, finally, in Year 13 you will create a 2500 word analytical essay based on texts of your choice. In order to gain a well-considered personal response much of our work is done through group/ class discussion therefore cultivating analytical, critical and verbal reasoning skills as well as written skills. When discussing texts we touch on many other subject disciplines, such as art, history, sociology, psychology and media. We consider motivation, representation, class and gender and how language is used to help us understand the world.
