This is equivalent to 1 A Level. This course is suitable for students who are interested in careers within the field of mental health or clinical psychology. This qualification would complement Health & Social Care, Applied Science and Psychology. The AAQ in Mental Health will enable students to: - Understand the range of factors that can influence our mental health and the potential effects they can have. - Identify strategies that can be implemented to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and communities. - Explore existing provisions and services involved with improving, maintaining and promoting healthier populations and environments. - Use monitoring tools to understand individuals’ mental health and wellbeing and consider the factors that influence us and the strategies that can be used to effectively improve the lives of individuals. - Understand societal attitudes to mental health and how they have changed over time. - Understand the impacts of social media and global issues on mental health and wellbeing. You will study FIVE units including: 1. The fundamentals of mental health and the individual – you will learn about the key topics that are important for mental health and wellbeing of an individual. 2. Mental health wellbeing and society – you will learn about how perceptions of mental health in society have changed over time. 3. Supporting and promoting mental health in organisations – you will learn about how organisations support the mental health of their employees. 4. Community-based support for mental health and wellbeing – you will learn about social connectedness and why it is important. 5. Supporting mental health with physical activity – you will learn about the impact of physical activity on mental health OR supporting mental health with outdoor and creative activities – you will learn about the role of nature and outdoors in improving mental health. This course provides a strong foundation for students who want to progress onto other related studies, such as: BSc Mental Health & Wellbeing, BSc Counselling, Mental Health & Wellbeing, BSc Mental Health and Wellbeing Coaching, BSc Health and Wellbeing or BSc Health Studies. Applicants should have: • a standard of literacy and numeracy to enable achievement • an ability to organise work files and meet deadlines
