Course summary

Business Studies is a subject that has direct relevance in the modern world. Many individuals work in a business organisation and the importance of businesses to our daily lives has grown rapidly in the last fifty years. We equip students with an understanding of the way in which businesses operate and make decisions. We give students a range of skills including problem solving, evaluation, analysis and decision making. Case studies are drawn from the real world and students develop a much more in-depth understanding of the world around them. Areas of study include business finance, human resources, operations, marketing, and how to respond to the changing business environment, such as the recession or environmental pressures. Business Studies at A-Level equips students for any future study of business at university or in further education. Beyond that it provides valuable knowledge of business that the student will inevitably carry into later life, perhaps as the owner of a business, an employee, or, as we all do, in dealing with businesses. It is a subject grounded in how the world works around us and its study will be a life-long asset for the young people that undertake it. The subject is non-vocational and can be combined with many other subjects. There is no requirement to have taken GCSE Business Studies prior to the course.
