Component 1: Recording (20% of the qualification) 60 marks. In this unit you will learn about the production tools and techniques to capture, edit, process and mix an audio recording. Component 2: Technology-based composition (20% of the qualification) 60 Marks. In this unit you will learn how to create, edit, manipulate and structure sounds to produce a technology- based composition. Component 3: Listening and analysing (25% of the qualification). Written examination 1hour 30 minutes, 75 marks. In this unit you will gain knowledge and understanding of recording and production techniques and principles, in the context of a series of unfamiliar commercial recordings. You will apply your knowledge to three areas of study: • Recording and production techniques for corrective and creative purposes • Principles of sound and audio technology • The development of recording and production technology Component 4: Producing and analysing (35% of the qualification) Written/practical exam. In this unit you will use knowledge and understanding of editing, mixing and production techniques which will be applied to unfamiliar materials provided by the exam board. There are two key areas of study: • Recording and production techniques for both corrective and creative purposes • Principles of sound and audio technology.
