Course summary
This course will improve and develop your ability to speak, write and understand French and broaden your understanding of French culture and life. You will discuss and write about various aspects of contemporary society. This includes themes such as: the changing role of the family, the “cyber-society”, voluntary work, music, art and cultural heritage. We also study a literary text and film. You will also learn many more grammatical structures that will enable you to become independent in your research and more proficient in your use of formal and informal French. In the second year you will continue to study a variety of topics: the diverse society, marginalised people, crime and criminals, politics, immigration, the right to vote and demonstrations. You will set yourself an area of interest related to France or the francophone world and conduct independent research.
