Course summary
Chemistry provides a deep understanding of the material world. Starting with familiar concepts such as the structure of the atom and the periodic table, we look in ever increasing detail at the structure and properties of the world we inhabit. The course covers a range of topics within Chemistry including: Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical and Thermodynamic properties and Biochemistry. Lessons are an introduction to new ideas and a chance to practise work with assistance. Regular homework and end of unit tests will help you to deepen your understanding and check your progress. Practical work is more exciting and more technical than you will be used to from GCSE. Chemistry is a preferred subject in many fields, not only science based. The ability to work through complex problems to the underlying factors is a key skill in many areas including: • Law • Economics and Finance • Business management • Forensic services A Level chemistry is MANDATORY for students applying to study: • Medicine • Dentistry • Veterinary Science
