Assessment
There are several units of work, one is externally assessed, others are assessed internally. The units are:- 1. Rehearsal Skills and Live Music Performance: Rehearse and present a performance as a band to a brief set by the exam board. This will include setting goals, self-assessing progress, and demonstrating safe and effective practice methods. 2. Planning for a Career in Music: Self assess employability skills, create a development plan to inform pathway to progress into industry roles. The remaining units may include: 3. Working as a freelance musician: Analyse skills, plan and deliver freelance projects, and evaluate its success. 4. Performing as a Session Musician: Prepare for, and take part in, unfamiliar recorded music making sessions. 5. Music Industry Revenue Flow: Understand structure of industry revenue flow, create action plan. 6. Improving instrumental performance: Critique instrument and skills, create practice routine, practice, review, refine. 7. Leading a music making activity: Plan and deliver a range of music activities to students and member of the community, refining and reviewing their success. As well as the gigs organised as part of the course, students may get to take part in more gigs as opportunities arise. In the past students have performed at Kesgrave fireworks night, the Cult café, The Angel PH Woodbridge, The Duke of York and The Swan Ipswich and other local venues. Students successfully completing their studies at the end of the second year will gain an RSL Level 3 Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma for Music Practitioners (Performance). The grading follows the criteria of Pass (24 UCAS points), Merit (48 UCAS points), Distinction (72 UCAS points) and Distinction* (84 UCAS points). It requires students to commit to attending a weekly band rehearsal session after school. There is no written examination and you will be given some opportunity to re-draft work for each unit during the course.
