Show all activities
We offer more than just a learning experience at Newstead. Please look below and on the Sixth Form area of our website for more information.

House System
The House system is an integral part of Newstead Wood School. Each student is allocated to a House and will participate in a variety of school competitions that promote leadership, creativity and collaboration.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Newstead is the largest provider of DofE in Bromley. We currently run Bronze, Silver and Gold. The students take part in practice expeditions on the North and South Downs along with the west coast of Scotland for Gold.
Subject Societies
These are run by Sixth Form students. Year 12 and 13 students lead discussions and debates weekly. We currently have 13 societies which run at lunchtime, including Afro-Carribbean, Social Justice, Pride, South Asian, Feminist Soc, Economics, and more.
Elective subjects
Our three-year Elective Options Cycle at Newstead embraces enrichment, challenge and independent learning above and beyond the GCSE and A level curriculum.
Weekly Lecture Programme
This programme provides information from Alumni, Universities, Education Providers, Gap Year organisations and others to support students on the next step of their journey.
Oxbridge, Elite University, MDV Mentoring
This can aid with your UCAS application
Mock University Admissions tests
These will take place in the autumn of Year 13.
Practice University Interviews
These will take place with key staff, alumni or guest visitors
NCS
This is a 4-week experience that helps build students' confidence and self-belief. Students live independently, develop skills and meet new people.
Young Enterprise
This scheme encourages students to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set to think flexibly and decisively, network with confidence and build positive relationships and establish a personal brand through social media. There are many opportunities to initiate social enterprise projects across the whole School to encourage innovative thinking aligned to our values.
Work Experience
All Year 12 students are expected to undertake work experience in the summer of that year.
Sport
Elective sporting activities run weekly on a Wednesday afternoon. Other electives can be chosen, including MDV Prep., Japanology, Model United Nations and more.
Careers Guidance
We have an excellent Careers Guidance Officer - this guidance is integral to all we offer at Newstead

FAQs

What grades must I achieve to be eligible to enter the Sixth Form?

You must achieve a minimum of 8 GCSE passes in one exam season. Four of these must be at grade 6 or above. The other four must be at grade 7 or above. You must have achieved at least a 6 in Maths and English.

If my grades mean I am eligible to enter the Sixth Form, do I need specific grades to study the courses I am interested in?

Yes - please look at our GCSE Grade Requirements list on our website. For many subjects you will need at least a grade 7 in the subject you wish to study. Some courses will also require 7 or above in other subjects.

Are there any extra curricular activities on offer?

Absolutely - please look at the Enrichment section of this page for more information.

Is there a catchment area for the Sixth Form?

No - there is no restriction on where you live. We expect all students to be on site from 8.35am to 3.35pm every day and therefore you would need to plan your commute accordingly.
