Welcome to Ormiston Rivers Academy
The Sixth Form at Ormiston Rivers Academy is a vibrant and enriching community that helps our students to open doors and follow their dreams. We get to know each and every students’ specialist interests. At Ormiston Rivers Sixth Form, we strive to offer a wide-ranging and enriching education to our students. Our curriculum offer ensures that all students have the chance to build a programme of study that allows them to not only achieve but to establish firm and productive progression routes to take with them into their adult lives. We try where ever possible to build a bespoke offer that allies with our students’ ambitions. All students also have regular access to qualified careers advisors and relevant guidance on their future progression into Higher Education, Apprenticeships or Employment, as well as being supported in exploring their options through opportunities including University fairs, visiting speakers, and mentoring. Alongside this, all Year 12 participate in a week of work experience to develop their transferable and employability skills and give them an experience of work in a chosen industry. Alongside their qualifications, students get the chance to engage in a number of enrichment opportunities, such as specialist online learning through courses with the UK’s top Universities, fundraising activities for identified charities as part of Interact, international and domestic trips, and extracurricular clubs such as sports clubs, Theatre Connections project and STEM club. Furthermore, students have access to a variety of leadership opportunities in the Sixth Form; from organising sporting events and school shows to acting as mentors for pupils lower down in the school or being an anti-bullying ambassador. They can also be members of the Academy’s Student Council leading on one of our key areas such as Equality, Environmental and ecological action or Community outreach, or be part of our Sixth Form Leadership Team. At the heart of the Sixth Form lies a strong system of pastoral care. The Sixth Form pastoral team are on hand to support students with their studies, career and higher education guidance and applications. Students are expected to develop and demonstrate qualities of self-motivation, maturity, resilience and commitment to their studies.

During my time at Ormiston Rivers, I was encouraged to aim high and strive for the University I really wanted to go to. At first, I doubted myself and was sceptical of my ability, but after countless discussions and help with my application, I pushed myself to apply for Queen Mary and it paid off! Factors such as working hard on my EPQ with the help from the Sixth Form leaders, helped me achieve the best possible grade, further helping in gaining the offer I did. Overall, the constant support and guidance helped me create the best application possible and has increased my confidence beyond A levels into my first, and now second year of my degree.

While at Ormiston Rivers Academy the teachers I had really helped me to get where I am now. Having teachers who were always there to support and push me to achieve the best I possibly could, helped me to obtain the grades I needed to attend my first choice university. Without the support of my teachers, I don’t think I’d be where I am now. The subjects that I studied while at sixth form helped me to completely decide on my career path!
Any key accomplishments you have achieved:
Due to my grades from sixth form I was offered a scholarship for my first year at university. I achieved 100% in my safe medicate exam.

The staff at Ormiston Rivers Academy had a huge impact on me getting into medical school. The staff gave a lot of support and put a lot of time into helping me further my learning to help me achieve the high grades I needed for my degree. The Sixth Form team supported me when I had to take some time out to attend work experience which is vital to be able to get on to my course and not let it impact my learning. There were also plenty of opportunities within the school which helped strengthen my application including running GCSE maths revision sessions on my own, assisting a trainee teacher with an afterschool dissection teaching session and plenty of charity work through the Interact committee. I strongly believe that attending Ormiston helped improve my application and get me to where I am now.
Any key accomplishments you have achieved:
My key accomplishments could include: Being the first student to get directly into medicine from ORA (and first in many years from St Peter’s as well but the number of years is debated between many staff), becoming a fully qualified pharmaceutical dispenser during my studies… (not sure sort of things you are looking for here so do let me know if you would like any more or any more specific to my time at the school).
