Extra-curricular
Activities that are designed to support the mental health and wellbeing of students and others. These activities are offered to develop camaraderie and a sense of belonging within our WGSB6 community, whilst also giving students the time to focus on something beyond academic study. These activities include; board games, walking, Couch 2 5k, HITT Training as well as social sports including badminton, table tennis and basketball.
Sport is at the heart of our school community, with a wide range of competitive sports teams on offer. Our enrichment programme gives students the chance to develop teamworking and sporting skill through training sessions, whilst also ensuring they can represent our school on a competitive level at local and national fixtures; please see our extra-curricular section for more details. These sports include; rugby, hockey and cricket.
Our community initiatives are driven by the businesses, establishments and wider community we are a part of. These give students the chance to give back through volunteering, leading local initiatives and working on development programmes in the community. These initiatives include: feeder primary school liaison programmes with Poulton Lancelyn, Stanton Road and St Andrew’s; local care home and hospice volunteering including; Derwent Lodge, Safe Harbour and St John’s Hospice; support for community development programmes from I LOVE BEBINGTON and Sustrans.
These activities allow students to be challenged in an academic context they may not have otherwise encountered. Students engaging in these activities may learn a new skill, subject or topic.
