Welcome to Okehampton College
Okehampton 6th form is a vibrant and dynamic learning community that aims to provide a supportive and inspiring environment for students to thrive academically and personally. We offer a wide range of subjects, including traditional academic subjects, vocational courses, and enrichment activities, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests and goals. At our 6th Form, we prioritise academic excellence and offer a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for further education, employment, and life beyond school. Our dedicated team of teachers are experts in their fields and are committed to helping students achieve their full potential. We provide personalised support and guidance to ensure that every student receives the necessary assistance to succeed. In addition to academic studies, our 6th Form program also focuses on developing key skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and leadership. Our aim is to offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs, trips and visits to encourage students to explore their interests and develop their talents outside the classroom. We are committed to using a universal destinations platform called Unifrog. Unifrog helps students with the whole progression process - from exploring their interests, to recording the great things they've done, to finding education and training opportunities, to drafting their applications. Unifrog also helps teachers and mentors to manage the process - from delivering engaging lessons using off-the-shelf teaching resources, to tracking careers interactions, to drafting References, to submitting applications. We understand the importance of preparing students for the challenges of the modern world. Our 6th Form program includes career guidance, work experience opportunities, and partnerships with local businesses and industry experts. We aim to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their chosen careers and make a positive impact in society. We believe that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about personal growth and well-being. Our 6th Form provides a nurturing and inclusive community where students feel valued, supported, and empowered. We promote a culture of respect and diversity, fostering a positive learning environment for all. We hope that this prospectus will give you a glimpse into the exciting opportunities and experiences that await you in our 6th Form. We encourage you to explore the prospectus further and discover the possibilities that lie ahead. We look forward to welcoming you to our 6th Form community and embarking on this exciting educational journey together.

Subjects studied: Photography, Geography,
Communications and Culture
After Post-16: I went on to study Photojournalism and
Documentary Photography at the University of the Arts
London, one of the world’s leading art schools.
What I’m doing now: I’m now a represented commercial
photographer and director based in London. My work
spans global campaigns for clients such as Adidas, Airbnb,
McDonald’s, and Virgin Atlantic, and my photographs
have been published by outlets including National
Geographic, Vogue, and The New York Times.
How Post-16 helped me: The support I received at Oke Sixth Form shaped both my
studies and, more importantly, my personal development. The pastoral care from Mrs
Little in particular but all the staff was genuinely life-changing, and I wouldn’t be where
I am without it. The freedom to explore my interests, combined with close guidance of
staff who genuinely cared, gave me lessons that proved more valuable than those I
later found at University. Those foundations still underpin my career today.
Favourite memory: Having the encouragement and space to pursue photography
seriously for the first time, supported by staff who cared about my growth both
academically and personally.

After Post-16: Currently in my second year of studying history
at the University of Warwick.
What I’m doing now: Whilst studying at Warwick I have
been working as a Regional Ambassador with the
Holocaust Educational Trust as well as volunteering as a TA
in Okehampton College on breaks from Uni in the History
department so you may recognise me!
How Post-16 helped me: Okehampton 6th form was the
perfect stepping stone I needed to get to where I am
now. The smaller class sizes, more personalised teaching was exactly what I needed
to build confidence in my own ability and provided me with the support to excel at
the opportunities I am now presented with. Studying at Okehampton’s 6th form also
opened up an incredible opportunity to join a Lessons From Auschwitz project with the
Holocaust Educational Trust.
Without the school making me aware of this project and coordinating the trip for me
and one other student I would have missed opportunities such as attending parliament,
speaking to Holocaust survivors and completing many talks to students. Something that
this school has continued to support me in doing despite no longer being a student
here.
