Welcome to Poynton High School

Our Sixth Form has an established reputation and consistently achieves excellent level three results. We also aim to develop a wider range of skills so that students are prepared to take the next step in life, whether it be Higher Education, apprenticeships, employment with training or Post 18 School Leaver Schemes. Our Sixth Form has been consistently recognised by Ofsted as a strength of the school where students benefit from a well considered programme to support their wider personal development. In the Sixth Form teachers are skilled at checking how well students are learning. They deliver subject curriculums that are aspirational and meet the needs of students. It was noted that students in the Sixth form enjoy acting as leaders and mentors, readily taking on roles as representatives of the School Council, the Eco Club, and the Pride Network ,which celebrates diversity and equality. Our stand alone Sixth Form Centre opened in September 2012 and provides excellent facilities for our students.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
In addition to academic courses, we offer students an Enrichment Programme which provides opportunities to develop valuable personal and social skills and to work with others through extra-curricular activities and community service.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
We are proud of the fact that so many of our students take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme through the school and that we are one of the largest centres for the Award in the North West. In 2019-20, 166 students started the Award at school and benefited from the opportunities that it brings. This nationally recognised Award provides students with the chance to do things that they would not have thought possible in the past. It develops a ‘can do’ culture among our students which is so valuable in the modern world.
School Trips
At Poynton High School we are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of school trips/residentials both in the UK and abroad.
Student Leadership Group
This group meets half termly to discuss important issues affecting school.
