Course summary
The essential aims of the A Level English Literature course are to stimulate an interest in and enjoyment of prose, poetry and drama from a range of social and historical contexts and literary genres. The course is designed to develop students’ ability to evaluate the ways in which writers develop their ideas through the form, structure and language of the text. Students will examine the social, historical and moral issues within the text and learn to form independent interpretations and develop convincing critical arguments. They will be expected to convey ideas logically, coherently and accurately within writing and share ideas thoughtfully and openly during group or class discussion. Students will read widely to enhance their understanding of the texts studied.
