Nadia Hoxha

September 2021

Employed

I recently graduated from Durham University and now work in law. The skills I honed at Macmillan Academy – focus, attention to detail, and self-belief are the foundation of my career. The ‘can-do’ attitude ingrained in me throughout my time at Macmillan was crucial to my success. Without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today. That’s why choosing the right school and sixth form is so important.

Alex Fishlock

September 2012

Employed

Alex was a student of Macmillan Academy from 2007 - 2014. Alex has since gone on to study Spanish and Russian at University College London, and then joined the Civil Service Fast Stream. He has worked in various Government Departments in London for 5 years, including as Private Secretary to Michael Gove, Lord Frost, and most recently Liz Truss and James Cleverly as Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary. He has now begun a posting as Head of Economics and Public Policy at the British Embassy in Madrid.

Kieran Bolko

September 2012

Employed

Kieran was a student at Macmillan Academy from 2007 - 2014. Throughout his time at the academy, Kieran enjoyed a wide range of different subjects but at Post 16 chose the subjects that he most preferred and studied for A levels in Biology, Geography and ICT, as well as an AS level in Chemistry. After leaving Macmillan, Kieran went to Durham University and completed a degree in Geography. This gave him the opportunity to travel and see new places through fieldwork. He focused his studies on sea level changes and did his dissertation on sea level rise and changes to the sedimentation rate in the Tees Estuary. Whilst at university, Kieran played a lot of sport, representing Trevelyan College in their different teams from football and rugby to pool and rounders. Following graduation in 2017, Kieran enjoyed travelling in the Canadian Rockies and British Columbia before starting on the Atos Graduate Scheme based in Stockton. He worked in Business Operations and also supported the Atos Apprentice recruitment campaign in the North East. Kieran’s personal highlight of his involvement with the Atos graduate programme was leading the 2018 – 2019 charity initiative, Million Makers, in which he led a team of seven other graduates to raise an incredible £370,000 for the charity, The Prince’s Trust. In 2019 Kieran moved to a new role based in central London working as an Account Manager in the Atos UK&I Public Sector Sales Team, where he now helps the Ministry of Justice to address their digital and IT challenges. He still dedicates time to support charity and has recently been holding digital drop-in sessions with clients of St Mungo’s homelessness charity, where he teaches basic and intermediate Microsoft Excel skills. Currently Kieran is part of the Atos UK&I Future Leaders Talent programme and hopes to progress further in the IT & Digital sector over the next few years.

Enrichment Activities

Show all activities
Post 16 offers a wide range of opportunities for you to get involved in alongside your academic studies. We want you to really enjoy your time at Post 16 and whether that’s taking achieving your Duke of Edinburgh award, taking to the stage in the annual school musical, or keeping fit by playing a variety of sports – there is a lot on offer!

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Post 16 students routinely participate in The Duke of Edinburgh Award. The DofE Award is an internationally recognised scheme which helps young people push themselves personally and physically to achieve more than they ever thought possible. Over a period of 6 to 12 months, you devote your own time to new activities, new skills and two mountainous expeditions to achieve your award. Students also get involved in volunteering, physical activity and skill development.

DRAMA & MUSIC

Each year the Academy hosts its annual production, showcasing the talent of the students across all year groups. Approximately 100 students join together in different roles to perform a musical to a sell out audience. For three nights students act, dance, sing, perform in the band or work backstage to ensure the audience leave with a smile on their face. Past productions include Hairspray, School of Rock and Grease amongst many more.

SPORT

Wednesday afternoons are dedicated to providing sporting and physical activity opportunities to all our Post 16 students.
